Talented tiny knitters

This morning I went to John Donne Primary School in Peckham to speak to their resident knitting club about knitting and knitwear design. These children (aged roughly 8 - 11) are absolutely incredible! They knit beautifully (and I do mean beautifully - not a dropped or wobbly stitch in sight) and have such a keen eye for colour. I was even more impressed that, out of the sizeable group that turns up most days, at least 5 of them were boys.

When I was small I was taught to knit by my mother & grandmother and while we may have spent one or two afternoons knitting in the classroom, there was nothing like this. Their teacher is brilliant, really committed and the kids have so much enthusiasm for it, making adjustments to knitting patterns and adding their own details like pockets to tiny dolls garments. I couldn't have done that at their age!

As a bonus, I may even have found myself a model for the next collection...

ASOS Marketplace: the LAUNCH!

ASOS finally launched their new concept, Marketplace yesterday afternoon. You can see the collection in it's entirety here - feel free to "like" any of the pieces in the collection by clicking the heart.

It wouldn't be fair if we didn't give you the final image of the countdown, so here it is, the dramatic and extremely cosy Possum cape:

ASOS Marketplace: the countdown #5

Next up in our ASOS Marketplace countdown... It's been getting a lot of love this week and (not surprisingly) is rapidly becoming a bestseller!
Shot no.6, of the Beaver hat in Charcoal grey, is definitely one of my absolute favourites:

Lovely

I don't know how it's taken me a week to stumble across this (evidently my Google alerts thing isn't working hard enough) but I've just discovered this very sweet blog post about the current collection on Chuck's Miscellany. You can read it here

I particularly like the drift from Annie to Amy Hall. Why not?!

ASOS Marketplace: This is the story of Beaver hat by Amy Hall

ASOS Marketplace have done a blog post today on how the Beaver hat came about. You can read it below or click here

“I was preparing for a product shoot and knew that I needed one extra accessory to complete the collection. As it was an ‘extra’ I started playing around with baby hat patterns – but supersizing the designs, so the whole piece became almost humorous, it was so big. I added matching pom poms and bobbles to tie it in to the complete range, and the beaver hat was born. Once it was complete, the scale and grey colour way vaguely reminded me of a Viking Helmet, but the hat has become one of my best sellers. I now absolutely love it, especially as it came about in quite a serendipitous way”

ASOS Marketplace: the countdown #4

Sorry for the prolonged silence over the last few days. I've been sourcing yarn for the next collection in Shrewsbury where there is very little WiFi available. To make up for it, I bring you two shots today!

Image no.4 in the ASOS Marketplace countdown: the Fox jacket in Charcoal (and my, what a lovely bike that is, too). For image no.5, we have the small but incredibly warm Squirrel wrist warmers...

Time Out!

I'm very VERY pleased to be featured in Time Out this week. I've been an avid reader for years so it's a bit of an honour.

The lovely Possum cape makes an appearance on their 'Style Agenda' page (p32). They say: "When we clapped eyes on Amy Hall's exquisite chunky knits, we wanted the temperature to plummet. Fast."

Thanks very much, Time Out!

ASOS shoot

Just had a really successful morning's shooting for ASOS Marketplace. No rain, intermittent sun and not too cold. We almost had the our little corner of the city to ourselves.

We are so good together

Hungarian fashion blog We Are So Good Together did a piece on me shortly after I launched in September but for some reason I've only just come across it! See it here

Fingers crossed...

Due to my involvement with ASOS's forthcoming online concept, Marketplace, I'm going to be shooting the A/W collection again this weekend - only this time we're going 'street style'!

My lovely friend Natasha has stepped in to perform modelling duties and we'll be heading to London's financial hub, which is eerily deserted at the weekends and consequently a perfect backdrop.

The rest of this week will be spent frantically calling back all of the samples and planning each of the looks, as well as desperately hoping for good weather. Unfortunately it's forecast to rain. Keep your fingers crossed.

From Russia with love

I've just spotted some more coverage on my collection on another Russian website, called Green Mama. These guys seem to like the collection, although again I can't be sure as I don't understand Russian! Translations very welcome....

Catwalk Genius

Feeling pretty pleased with myself this morning as Catwalk Genius like my images so much they've used one for their new 'splash page'. To see it for yourselves and check out their site, go here: Catwalk Genius

They've also featured me on their blog

Not a bad start to the day!
